More flash...

I'm hopeful that I didn't blind this poor snail last night, but he seemed to be a rather willing subject.

Still flash testing, I think I need better diffusing, and certainly need a better understanding of flash exposure, but I'm happy with the results so far.

  2. Yeah, I thought I'd up to 1/200 like you said - I still need to learn about flash exposure etc - at the moment I'm just telling the camera I want this setting or that, and assuming the flash will sort it out for me. Of course it's not that simple!

The light was rubbish yesterday, as were the macro possibilities. I'm hoping this weekend I'll get a better grasp on how flash works and why it does certain things :-)

Thanks for your comment by the way!

  3. Hi John

I think you did a great job, I usually go for -2 or -1 flash compensation on close ups such as this, do you have a reflector, I always carry one with me, I would have positioned it to the left of shot, and slightly above, its not easy though if you have to hold it in your left hand and use the camera at the same time LOL, especially with the weight of a 5D with lens and flash on board, I usually clip it on my tripod, anyway I think Id be very happy with the shot you have got :)

Sorry again for my stupid typos in the first 2 replies I must concentrate more LOL

  4. No worries, it happens :-)

It's strange in some conditions I was using +1, others -1!

I will check out that vid you suggested too.
