Urban Lines

Some rather dated looking steps in Bristol, I quite liked the lines, lighting and layout - seems to have come out quite well via a mono-conversion in Lightroom.

West Country

My enjoyment of 'seascape' photography is pretty much offset by my dislike of long car journeys. A glance at Google Maps pointed in the direction of the West Country, specifically Clevedon which has a pier (and unlike Weston, a beach which doesn't have a shore line 2 miles out....).

Long exposure from the same location, this time at 24mm. I could only manage 20 seconds due to the brightness on the day, but good to see some cloud movement.



My unofficial project for the day was to try and get a photo of a robin, a bird that holds sentimental significance to my girlfriend. Luckily we bumped in to a few at Cabot Park in Bristol that were more than a little happy to pose. I learnt a thing or two about bird photography, a smaller aperture being the main one. Not massively enthused by my results here, so this is still unfinished business....

Dorset Coast

Been a while since I posted anything, it's also been a while since I used my camera!

We took a trip to West Lulworth at the weekend to get some sea air, a bit of exercise (the terrain is rather steep!) and in my case to try and get some nice shots.

Our last visit was pretty much the deciding factor in me wanting an ND filter to try some long exposures. It had been really sunny, the sea was slow blue and against all the white cliffs and rocks we felt like we could have been in a Caribbean. Seeing as it is March, I wasn't expecting such colours and warmth - but we weren't disappointed.

All of these are at around 30s exposure - the sea was bluer than is represented here too. It really is a lovely spot, you just need to walk a bit away from where all the tourists go (Lulworth Cove).

Milford

December 28th 2014 would have been my Grandfather's 91st Birthday. When I was younger we would often make the trip to visit them on his Birthday, just after Christmas - usually in awful weather!

This year we decided to make the trip again for his Birthday, despite the cold weather and without the prospect of the amazing meals my Nana would have cooked us in the past, and of course their wonderful company.

They will never be forgotten and I cannot thank them enough for choosing such a beautiful location to make their home, somewhere we enjoy visiting and will continue to do so for hopefully many years to come.

Family

It's been a while since I posted anything - here are a couple of shots from the weekend. I was actually helping my sister with a photography assignment she had, but being a bit of a control freak I of course managed to snatch my camera back and grab a couple of my own shots. As ever, my Niece and Nephew made for some good subject matter :)



Playing with some bubbles and their dog Jasmine, I like the open space in the shot - thankfully the lens helps to isolate my little subjects at f/2.2 :)



Staged, but effective!

Jules Bianchi

After the terrible accident at Suzuka today involving easily my favourite up and coming F1 driver, Jules Bianchi, I wanted to share a couple of photos I took of him in action at Silverstone last year. Not my best work, but hardly the point.

He's annihilated his team mate over the previous two seasons, part of the Ferrari Driver Academy he is more than deserving of a more competitive drive. I hope he gets the chance to do so.
